Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : India has placed an immediate ban on imports and exports with Pakistan after the terrorist attack at Pahalgam, South Kashmir which killed over 2 dozen people. The order seeks to tighten Pakistani Imports through Indian Loopholes Indirectly.
This is India’s second move since the previous one was shutting down the Wagah-Attari border which is the only land border trade passage to Pakistan. As indicated by the DGFT, “The direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan will from now on be governed as a no entry zone, which means is there is absolutely no entry permitted. This blockage remains in force for reasons relating to national safety and public order policy, and will in the foreseeable future be so until formally lifted. Any exceptions will have to be vetted and granted by the Indian authorities.”
Indications show that upcoming direct routs to the nation will perhaps see a spike in operational economic activity and trade with India, as reports suggests these coming developments could vastly improve intra-regional trade relations, primary donor and recipient relations along its multitude of economic and trade benefits (Pakistani exports worth 500 million).

Explanation for Increasing the Trade Barrier
Officials highlighted the need for a comprehensive ban to prevent evasion through relabeling and origin loopholes. The government wants to make sure that customs personnel can trace and cut every link of Pakistani exports, even those coming via backdoor channels.
Trade Attacks after the Pulwama Terror Strike
There has been a decrease in trade relations between India and Pakistan post the 2019 Pulwama attack. After this, India increased the import levy on Pakistani items to 200 percent and cancelled the ‘most favored nation’ trade agreement with Pakistan. India’s imports from Pakistan dropped to $420,000 from $2.86 million during the same time in the previous year from April 2024 to January 2025.
