On March 22, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated a voluntary nationwide lockdown called the 'Janata Curfew'. This measure aimed to control the spread of COVID-19. Citizens were asked to stay indoors and, in the evening, expressed gratitude to health workers by clapping and banging utensils for five minutes.

1739: Nadir Shah Orders Massacre in Delhi

On this date in 1739, the Persian ruler Nadir Shah invaded India and defeated the Mughal army at Karnal. After entering Delhi, riots broke out, leading Nadir Shah to order a mass killing in retaliation. His troops executed civilians across parts of Old Delhi. The massacre is historically known as 'Kaatle Aam'.
