By-elections are to be held on the Phulpur assembly seat of Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Mujtaba Siddiqui at Sarai Inayat police station in Ganganagar. According to DCP (Ganganagar) Kuldeep Singh Gunawat, SP candidate Mujtaba Siddiqui allegedly used casteist words for people of a particular class while talking to journalists during a program.
Police officials said that a case was registered at Sarai Inayat police station on the complaint of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Phulpur assembly constituency unit president Rajkumar Gautam. He said that a case was registered against Siddiqui on Sunday under the SC/ST Act and relevant sections of the BNS.
What did Mujtaba Siddiqui say?
On the FIR being registered, SP leader Mujtaba Siddiqui said, “I have never used any abusive words against the Dalit community. The media has presented my words in a distorted manner. How can I say anything against the Dalit community on whose strength I was an MLA three times?” He said, “Still, if I have committed any mistake unknowingly, then I apologize. This FIR has been registered to implicate me and create a wrong feeling against me in the minds of the Dalit community.”
Let us inform you that Mujtaba Siddiqui has been an MLA from Soraon twice and from Pratappur once. Samajwadi Party has fielded him as the candidate of the ‘India’ alliance for the upcoming by-election.
