Suspense Crime, Digital Desk : India's top aviation safety body, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), has launched a formal investigation into a helicopter crash at the Sanjichhat helipad, located near the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the aircraft, fortunately escaped the incident with only minor injuries.
The helicopter involved was a Bell 407, registered as VT-TBC and operated by a private company. The crash occurred during a landing attempt. According to initial reports filed with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the helicopter began to drift sideways during its final approach. This drift caused the tail rotor to strike the ground, leading the aircraft to roll over and sustain substantial damage.
The incident has been officially classified as a "serious incident," which mandates a thorough investigation by the AAIB. The DGCA, which is the country's aviation regulator, was first notified and subsequently handed over the probe to the AAIB.
The AAIB is responsible for investigating all serious air incidents and accidents in India. Its primary goal is not to assign blame but to determine the precise cause of the event. By analyzing the wreckage, reviewing flight data, and interviewing personnel, the agency aims to identify any mechanical, human, or environmental factors that contributed to the crash. The findings will be used to issue safety recommendations to prevent similar accidents from happening in the future.
