Suspense crime, Digital Desk : A former top police officer in Bengaluru has fiercely criticized Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah following the suspension of senior police officials. Bhaskar Rao, who previously served as Bengaluru's Police Commissioner and is now with the BJP, labeled the day of the suspensions as the "darkest day for Karnataka police," accusing the government of unfairly targeting officers.

The controversy stems from an incident where alleged pro-Pakistan slogans were raised during celebrations for Congress MP Syed Naseer Hussain's Rajya Sabha election victory at the Vidhana Soudha (the state legislature building). Following the incident and a subsequent Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report which reportedly confirmed the slogans, the state government suspended an IPS officer and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) for their alleged failure to prevent the sloganeering and control the situation.

Bhaskar Rao, in his public criticism, argued that suspending these officers without a proper inquiry was unjust and would severely demoralize the entire police force. He suggested that the police were being made scapegoats and that such actions by the political leadership undermine the apolitical nature and operational independence of the police. He questioned the due process and fairness of the decision, implying political pressure was at play.

The state government, led by CM Siddaramaiah, has defended its actions, citing the FSL report as evidence. The government's stance is that strict action is necessary to maintain law and order and to send a clear message that such incidents will not be tolerated. Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara had earlier stated that action would be based on the FSL findings.

Rao's strong condemnation highlights the often-tense relationship between political administrations and the police hierarchy, especially when high-profile incidents with political ramifications occur. His comments also bring into focus the debate around police accountability versus the potential for political interference in disciplinary actions within the force. The incident and its aftermath continue to stir political debate in Karnataka.
