Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Following the rising violence connected to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the European Union has called on both India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and engage in conversation. The speculated potential for Indian aggression in retaliation to presumed cross-border Indian involvement has elevated worries internationally.
Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, attended meetings with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar of India and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar of Pakistan, prior to which she called the situation “Concerning” further stating that any escalation will be futile productivity.
Kallas urged on the social media platform X saying, “Growing tensions between India and Pakistan is alarming. I wish both parties would observe restraint and promotes dialogue to objectively deflate the tension. Escalation helps no one. Period.”
India Promote EU’s Statement Fighting Terrorism
Jaishankar considered the EU’s attack on terrorism in all its forms a positive step and said the statement was welcome. “Good to speak with EU HRVP @kajakallas this evening. Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Welcome European Union's strong condemnation of terrorism in all forms and manifestations,” he tweeted.
The EU had delayed issuing a statement until after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made his appeal to both countries to defuse the hostilities. Rubio held separate meetings with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Indian Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar, both about the terror incident that resulted in 26 fatalities.
India Strikes Back With Tough Measures
India has interconnected cross-border linkages with the Pahalgam attack and has pledged to respond firmly. During a Prime Parliamentary address, Mr. Modi clearly articulated during a defence review meeting that all uniformed personnel will have complete freedom of action on the day, time, and manner of retaliation, as required.
Modi was quoted by government sources as saying that there is no doubt India is determined to respond to terrorism in a big way. To underline its seriousness, India also announced several punitive steps against Pakistan which included:
Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty;
Closure of Attari land border crossing;
Downgrade of diplomatic missions’
Pakistan Retaliates, Warns Against Treaty Suspension
In response, Pakistan closed its airspace for Indian flights and seized all trading activities coming from or going to India and passing through third countries. Islamabad Became furious with the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and said, any obstructed flow of water will be considered an act of war.
