Ramayana SDCC 2026 Panel: Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Namit Malhotra Unveil Global Strategy & Trailer Update

Post

The highly anticipated cinematic adaptation of the epic Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, stole the spotlight at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026. Fans had been expecting a public trailer, but the makers shared exclusive sneak peek footage and announced updates on character vision, international distribution, and scale.

The panel featured lead actors Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, director Nitesh Tiwari, and producer Namit Malhotra, generating massive engagement across social media platforms globally.

Ranbir Kapoor and Yash Detail Their Roles as Lord Ram and Ravana

During the panel discussion, Ranbir Kapoor described portraying Lord Ram as the defining responsibility of his acting career, acknowledging the immense cultural reverence attached to the role.

Speaking on the casting of Kannada superstar Yash as Ravana, Kapoor highlighted:

"People already have a preconceived notion of Ravana. We needed somebody with Yash’s stardom and aura to bring a fresh, compelling perspective to the character."

Addressing his character approach, Yash emphasised creating a nuanced, multi-dimensional depiction of Ravana rather than a conventional antagonist, aiming to honour the emotional complexity and depth embedded in the original epic narrative.

Why the Ramayana: Part 1 Trailer Was Postponed

Producer Namit Malhotra clarified why the public trailer release was deferred, attributing the decision to a major international partnership:

Global Distribution Partnership: Sony Pictures Entertainment has officially joined the project as the international theatrical distributor.

We've rescheduled the official trailer launch to align with a coordinated, high-impact global marketing campaign.

Exclusive Footage: SDCC 2026 attendees were treated to exclusive, behind-the-scenes visual effects (VFX) clips showcasing the film's world-building.

Historic Musical Collaboration: Hans Zimmer & A.R. Rahman

A standout highlight of the production is its historic musical score, marking Hollywood legend Hans Zimmer's debut in Indian cinema, collaborating alongside Academy Award-winning composer A.R. Rahman. The soundtrack aims to blend Western orchestral compositions with classic Indian musical traditions.

The multi-star cast includes Sai Pallavi (Sita), Sunny Deol (Hanuman), Ravi Dubey (Laxman), alongside Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, and Vivek Oberoi in pivotal roles.
