In the present times, the consequences of climate change are easily noticeable in Delhi-NCR. A combination of increased temperatures and pollution has led to an increase in cases of cough, cold, and viral fever. A new study claims that over one or more persons in an astounding 54% of homes are sick.
Changing weather has resulted in new patients being added on the list of flu and viral infections. A cough or cold usually goes away in a few days. However, many have been reporting persistent symptoms for long periods. As per the study done by Local Circles, approximately 54% of households in Delhi-NCR are affected by flu or covid-like symptoms which is a considerable jump from the 38% cases in August last year.
The survey was conducted on 13 thousand respondents from the areas of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. 63% were male and 37% were female. From the surveys results, many patients reported flu-like symptoms and most patients were ill for over ten days.
What do the survey figures say?
* 9% said 4 or more people in their household are unwell.
* People living in households estimated to be 45% report that 2 to 3 people have been dealing with cough and fever.
* 36% said that in their household no one is reported ill.
* 10% of the respondents were not able to provide medically relevant information face to face.
What is causing an increase in the viral cases? Experts attribute the increase to several factors including change in weathers, high level of pollution, new viral strain, or weak immunity. Average people whom I have talked with claim to suffer from problems like fever, cough, body pains, sore throat, fatigue, and many more. It indeed is worrisome when you meet multiple patients with such symptoms for more than 10 days.
