Suspense crime, Digital Desk : The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has summoned senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain as part of a probe into an alleged ₹2,000 crore scam related to school classroom construction in Delhi, ANI reported.
Satyendar Jain is required to appear before the ACB on June 6, while Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister, is scheduled to appear in court on June 9.
The action follows a formal complaint from BJP members including spokesperson Harish Khurana, MLA Kapil Mishra, and media representative Neelkanth Bakshi. The complaint raises concerns over inflated expenses and procedural lapses in building semi-permanent classrooms across Delhi government schools.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anti-Corruption Branch), Shweta Singh Chauhan, stated that the ACB received complaints implicating Sisodia and Jain in the alleged scam. According to Chauhan, each classroom reportedly cost ₹24 lakh—significantly higher than the then-market average of ₹5 lakh per unit.
Approximately 12,748 classrooms were constructed at a total cost of ₹2,892 crore, ANI reported. The ACB claims that the average cost per classroom, as per the contract tenders, was ₹24.86 lakh—nearly five times more than the market standard.
Chauhan added that the contracts were awarded to 34 contractors, many of whom reportedly have connections to the AAP.
ACB Chief Madhur Verma mentioned that during the 2015-16 Expenditure Finance Committee meetings, the project was approved with a strict deadline of June 2016 and no allowance for budget revisions. However, the current investigation has uncovered irregularities in procurement and financial mismanagement.
The investigation is ongoing, and further legal proceedings are expected following the court appearances of the two AAP leaders.
