Cyclone Vipha has entered the Bay of Bengal, prompting a significant weather alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).The system has formed a low-pressure area, with predictions that it may intensify and potentially make landfall on coastal areas of northern Odisha and adjoining West Bengal.

The cyclone's influence is expected to bring torrential and heavy to very heavy rains to several states, including West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand.Light to moderate rainfall is also anticipated in regions like Northeast India, Sikkim, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and parts of Madhya Pradesh and Kerala. Strong winds are also a possibility accompanying the rainfall.

Weather experts suggest that the remnants of Cyclone Vipha might lead to a low-pressure system that behaves differently from a typical monsoon system, potentially causing its movement to be closer to the Himalayan foothills. This could result in a northward shift of the monsoon trough, potentially leading to a monsoon break over central and western parts of India.

Authorities are advising fishermen to avoid the northern Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal areas due to expected hazardous sea conditions and strong winds.
