Indian cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav has been fined 30 percent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for comments made after a heated Asia Cup match against Pakistan. The move came after Yadav dedicated India's victory to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian armed forces.

The incident occurred following India's win over their arch-rivals on September 14. In a post-match statement, Yadav expressed solidarity with the families affected by the terror attack and praised the bravery of the armed forces. This, however, did not sit well with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which lodged a formal complaint with the ICC, arguing that the comments were political in nature and violated the players' code of conduct.

The complaint led to an official hearing with ICC match referee Richie Richardson. Despite Yadav pleading not guilty, he was found to have breached the code Along with the fine, he was also reportedly warned to avoid making any statements that could be seen as political for the rest of the tournament.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) isn't taking the decision lying down and has reportedly appealed the verdict.

This fine adds another layer to what has already been a tense tournament between the two cricket-loving nations. Tensions were high from the start, with the Indian team refusing to partake in the traditional pre and post-match handshakes as a gesture of solidarity with the terror victimsThe controversy wasn't limited to the Indian captain; Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf was also fined for provocative on-field gestures during a later match in the tournament.[
