Relatives of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath, who was allegedly assaulted by a group of Punjab Police officers last month, have declined to withdraw their legal complaint. This decision comes even after officials assured a proper investigation and proposed the transfer of Patiala’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Nanak Singh.
Sources, as reported by the Indian Express, revealed that the family received a message through Army channels suggesting that SSP Nanak Singh would be moved. The message also indicated that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would handle the inquiry, but only if the Colonel agreed to withdraw his case from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The family, however, continues to push for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry.
Assault Incident Sparks National Attention and Family Demands Justice
Colonel Bath, who is currently serving at the Army headquarters in Delhi, and his son Angad Singh Bath were allegedly assaulted by police near Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala on the night of March 13-14. Among the officers involved were four Inspectors. Reports indicate that the Colonel suffered a dislocated arm, and his son sustained a broken nose.
According to the family, the confrontation began when plainclothes police officers asked the Colonel to move his vehicle. When he objected to their approach, one officer reportedly struck him, escalating the incident. Photos shared afterward displayed visible injuries. In a press statement, the Colonel's wife, Jaswinder Kaur Bath, claimed to possess video evidence showing a police officer admitting to the attack.
