Beijing: The conflict escalated as China increased the tariffs on American products to 125% just a few hours after Donald Trump lifted the tariffs on Chinese imports to 145%, leaving China out of a broader pause on tariffs. On Friday, China proclaimed that it would increase the tariffs on American goods from 84% to 125% a few moments after President Trump announced a new steep increase in the duties of imports from China, raising them to an astounding 145%.

Indeed, China stated further retaliatory measures will not be issued.

“China’s unilateral increase of tariff rate and its imposition of such an unreasonable tariff is completely in violation of rules and its international treaty obligations,” Xinhua added. In the statement, the finance ministry also declared: “US’s imposition of abnormal tariff bounds on China is inflicting deep wound to the basic laws of economics as well as important international trade regulations and simple commonsense reasons as such is brutal force and intimidation devoid of any justification.”
