IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Delhi, Heavy Rain Forecast in UP, Bihar, and 20 States Until August 3
The southwest monsoon has entered a vigorous phase across the country, bringing widespread downpours, much-needed relief from humid conditions, and active weather patterns. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow rain alert for the national capital and surrounding regions for July 29th and 30th, while sounding heavy rainfall warnings across more than 20 states. With continuous precipitation expected through August 3rd, citizens across northern, central, eastern, and southern regions are advised to stay updated on local forecasts.
Delhi-NCR Weather and Regional Forecast for North India
The national capital witnessed significant rainfall on Tuesday, drastically dropping temperatures and easing humid heat. According to the IMD, Delhi's maximum temperature on Wednesday is projected at 32 degrees Celsius with a minimum of 23 degrees Celsius, and wet spells are expected to persist until August 3rd. Meanwhile, heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 50 kmph are forecast for Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Rajasthan, and both western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Neighboring Haryana and Punjab are also slated to receive heavy showers starting July 30th, while Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh remain under heightened alerts for heavy to very heavy spells.
Central, Eastern, and Western India Witness Active Monsoon Conditions
Active monsoon systems are creating continuous wet spells across central and eastern parts of the nation. Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha are bracing for continuous rainfall over a four-day window starting July 29th, with heavy to very heavy downpours likely in multiple districts. Neighboring regions including Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal have also received severe weather warnings highlighting lightning, strong winds, and heavy rain. In coastal Odisha, authorities have cautioned about strong squally winds reaching speeds of 50 to 70 kmph. Concurrently, western states including Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch, Konkan-Goa, Central Maharashtra, and Marathwada are experiencing sustained rainfall accompanied by powerful coastal winds of up to 60 kmph.
Northeast and South India Remain on High Alert
The northeastern states—comprising Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura—will continue to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall through August 3rd. In the southern peninsula, active monsoon conditions are sweeping across Kerala, coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Lakshadweep. Coastal Karnataka and Kerala are expected to experience intense heavy downpours, while coastal Andhra Pradesh battles humid conditions. Due to turbulent sea conditions and strong winds in the northwest Bay of Bengal and along the Odisha-West Bengal coasts, the meteorological office has strongly advised fishermen and mariners to avoid venturing into deep waters.
