In a major crackdown against the illegal gambling network operating during the ongoing IPL season, the Mahasamund Police have dismantled a sophisticated online betting syndicate. The operation led to the arrest of six individuals, including the suspected mastermind Nishant Nagwani, marking one of the biggest blows to the betting underworld in the region.
The Multi-Crore Bust and Key Arrests
Following a meticulously planned investigation, the police team intercepted a high-tech betting operation that spanned across Raipur and Bemetara. During the raid, authorities seized assets and transaction records valued at approximately ₹2.5 crore. The haul included two laptops, a tablet, 22 high-end mobile phones, and documented online transactions worth over ₹1.15 crore.
Mastermind Behind the Screen: Nishant Nagwani’s Network
The investigation revealed that Nishant Nagwani, a resident of Devpuri, Raipur, was the primary admin and kingpin of the network. He allegedly managed multiple online panels and distributed IDs to various agents and sub-agents. Nagwani was responsible for the financial logistics, including the distribution of winnings and the collection of stakes from a vast network of punters.
Modus Operandi: Use of Dark Web Panels and Websites
The accused were utilizing several illicit online platforms to facilitate betting on IPL matches. According to the police, the syndicate operated through panels such as:
UNCLEBAT9
UNCLE777.com
Grand777.com
PowerExch.com
WazirExch.com
To evade detection, the gang frequently changed their operating locations, shifting between Raipur and Bemetara to keep their digital footprints hidden from the authorities.
Technological Trail Leads to Success
The breakthrough came after a previous raid on April 8 near Baba Family Dhaba, where several individuals were caught using the 'Power Exch' WhatsApp group. Technical analysis of the seized devices from that incident led the cyber cell and local police straight to the main operators.
Legal Action and Identified Suspects
The arrested individuals have been identified as Durgesh Dahre (alias Yogesh), Lalit Chawla, Anshu Bagga, Saurabh Jain, Vijay Verma, and the kingpin Nishant Nagwani. All suspects have been booked under the Chhattisgarh Gambling (Prohibition) Act and relevant sections of the IT Act.
Mahasamund Police have issued a stern warning that the crackdown on online betting and illegal gambling will continue throughout the IPL season, with more arrests likely as the investigation expands into the financial trails of these betting IDs.
