The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Joint Director from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for allegedly accepting a ₹70,000 bribe from a representative of a private firm in Hyderabad.

Ramakanth Sagar Muthyala, serving as Scientist-D with BIS and stationed in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, was apprehended along with V. Lakshminarayana Reddy, also known as Babu Reddy. Reddy represents Kronax Engineering and Pressure Vessels Private Limited. The arrests followed the alleged exchange of the bribe.

According to officials, the payment was made to secure BIS approval for manufacturing 12,500 cylinders.

A CBI spokesperson stated that searches were carried out at both the residential and office premises of the accused official in Hyderabad and Vijayawada. These searches resulted in the seizure of various incriminating documents.
