Post

Shares of leading building materials and piping manufacturer Astral Ltd. witnessed heavy buying momentum on Thursday, surging nearly 9.5% in early trade to touch an intraday high of ₹1,599. The sharp rally was triggered by the company's robust financial performance for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 (Q1 FY27), which comfortably outperformed market expectations. With this strong upward movement, Astral stock has recorded an impressive gain of approximately 19.69% over the past month, reviving strong investor enthusiasm across major stock exchanges.

Stellar Q1 FY27 Financial Performance and Profit Jump

Astral reported exceptional growth in its core financials for the June quarter, driven by efficient operational execution, a higher share of high-margin products, and optimized capacity utilization across its new manufacturing units. The company's consolidated net profit skyrocketed by 51.8% year-on-year to reach ₹120.2 crore, compared to ₹79.2 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.

Alongside the massive jump in net profit, Astral's operational earnings also showed solid strength. Total EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) registered a 25.8% increase, touching ₹244 crore for the quarter. More importantly, the EBITDA margin expanded by 120 basis points to stand at 15.5%, proving that the company successfully managed its profitability despite ongoing fluctuations in raw material costs and a broader industry environment that saw a 10% volume decline across the piping sector due to volatile market conditions.

Major Brokerages Bullish: Citi, UBS, and Nuvama Weigh In

Following the impressive quarterly scorecard, top global and domestic brokerage firms have revised their outlooks and target prices for Astral, expressing immense confidence in the company's market-share gains and future volume growth.

Citi: Maintaining its 'Buy' rating, Citi has issued a target price of ₹1,900. The brokerage noted that Q1 earnings highlighted the intrinsic business strength of the company, aided by double-digit volume growth in July due to channel restocking. Furthermore, progress on the CPVC Resin Integration project remains on track for completion by Q4 FY27.

UBS: Holding an 'Accumulate' rating, UBS has assigned a target price of ₹1,950. The firm believes Astral's decentralized manufacturing model positions it uniquely to outperform competitors and capture a larger market share even in challenging industry cycles.

Nuvama: In a significant move, Nuvama upgraded Astral's stock from 'Hold' to 'Buy' with a revised target price of ₹1,675. Highlighting that Astral's pipe volumes were the best in the industry, Nuvama anticipates double-digit volume growth throughout FY27 with operating margins projected in the 16-18% range.

Motilal Oswal & CLSA: Motilal Oswal remains bullish with a 'Buy' rating and a target price of ₹1,697, backed by management's forecast of double-digit volume growth and over 20% value growth in FY27. Meanwhile, CLSA maintains a 'Hold' stance with a target price of ₹1,490, advising investors to watch for consistent margin improvements in the paints and adhesives segments, even as it acknowledges Astral's dominant market positioning.

As Astral continues to demonstrate resilient operational execution, strong July demand, and robust margin expansion, market analysts suggest that investors keep a close watch on upcoming sales volumes, raw material price trends, and evolving valuations to make well-informed financial decisions.
