Monsoon Active Across India: IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Across Multiple States Through August 18

The active southwest monsoon continues to unleash severe weather across India, triggering heavy downpours, flash floods, and landslides from the plains to the Himalayan terrain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued comprehensive weather warnings and forecasts, predicting continuous rainfall activity across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Central and Southern India, and the northeastern states through August 18. With several regions experiencing intense spells, civic authorities and citizens remain on high alert.

Delhi and NCR Weather: 5 Days of Drizzle and Overcast Skies

The national capital and its adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) continue to experience intermittent spells of rain. According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi will stay generally cloudy, with light rain, drizzle, and pleasant breezes expected to persist over the next five days leading up to August 18. Today, maximum and minimum temperatures are projected to hover around 34 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively, offering temporary relief from humidity.

Heavy Rains Batter Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand

Monsoon activity has intensified significantly across the northern plains. In Uttar Pradesh, heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are forecasted for several parts of eastern UP today, with intensity expected to ramp up further from tomorrow through August 18. Western Uttar Pradesh is also slated to receive heavy spells between tomorrow and August 17.

Neighboring Bihar will see an escalation in rainfall starting tomorrow, with widespread showers expected until August 18. Meanwhile, Jharkhand is bracing for very heavy downpours and thunderstorms in multiple districts over the coming days.

Central India and Western Coast Under Heavy Showers

Central and peninsular India are witnessing active monsoon conditions. Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha are experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall, with isolated extremely heavy spells likely to continue in Odisha until August 16. Western Madhya Pradesh, parts of eastern Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan are also receiving steady showers. Along the western coast, Konkan and Goa in Maharashtra remain under a heavy rain alert through August 15.

South and Northeast India Weather Forecast

In Southern India, wet weather is prevailing across Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Rayalaseema. Coastal Karnataka and Kerala are expected to witness widespread, continuous rainfall until August 18. Simultaneously, Northeast India, including Assam and Meghalaya, remains on alert for persistent downpours throughout the week.

Hilly Regions: Heavy Rain Alerts for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh

Mountainous terrain continues to face severe weather challenges. The IMD has issued heavy rain alerts for Uttarakhand, with specific warnings highlighted for August 15 and 18. In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rain alerts cover multiple key districts, including Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, Solan, Kangra, Bilaspur, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, and Una. Additionally, several districts in Jammu and Kashmir are experiencing thunderstorms and localized rain.
