Lucknow: The by-elections for 9 seats in UP have been completed. The results of the by-elections were declared on Saturday. BJP has won 6 seats in the by-elections. Apart from this, SP has won two seats and RLD has won one seat. After not winning even a single seat in the by-elections, BSP chief Mayawati held a press conference on Sunday. In the press conference, Mayawati alleged that fake votes were cast in the elections and said that until the Election Commission of the country takes strict measures to prevent fake votes from being cast in the country, our party will not contest any by-election in the country.
Fake votes cast in the election
BSP chief Mayawati said, ‘There is a general discussion among people about the voting that took place this time in the by-elections on 9 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh and the results that came yesterday, that earlier in the country, fake votes were cast by misusing power to win elections through ballot papers and now this is being done through EVMs as well, which is a matter of great sadness and concern for democracy. Along with the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections in the country, this is now being done quite openly, especially in by-elections. We have also seen all this in the recent by-elections in Uttar Pradesh.
BSP will not contest any by-election
He further said, ‘Many voices are being raised on this in the general elections of the Maharashtra state assembly. This is also a big alarm bell for our country and democracy. In such a situation, now our party has decided that until the Election Commission of the country takes some strict steps to stop the casting of fake votes in the country, our party will not contest any by-election in the country. Our party will contest the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections and local body elections in the country with full preparation and strength.’
BSP candidates lost
In fact, in the by-elections held on nine seats in UP, BSP had fielded Muslim candidates in Meerapur and Kundarki. The BSP candidate got only about two percent votes on both these seats. The BSP candidate got 3248 votes in Meerapur and 1099 votes in Kundarki. In Kundarki, BSP candidate Rafatullah lost by about one lakh seventy thousand votes.
In Sisamau, BSP had fielded Brahmin candidate Virendra Kumar Shukla, who got only 1410 votes. Similarly, in Katehari, BSP candidate Amit Verma got 41647 votes, and in Manjhwa, BSP candidate Deepak Tiwari got 34927 votes. BSP has won Katehari and Manjhwa seats five times. In Phulpur, the BSP candidate got 20,342 votes.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the vote share of the BSP had come down to 9.83 percent. Mayawati did not win a single seat out of the nine seats on which by-elections were held in 2022, but the results of the by-elections indicate that the Dalit Muslim vote is rapidly moving away from Mayawati.
