New Delhi: The beauty industry never stands still, and skincare is a perfect example of how trends evolve over time. From age-old home remedies to modern-day serums, traditional skincare has long been the go-to for smooth, glowing skin. But as effective as they may feel on the surface, these products often struggle to go deeper.

This is where advanced laser technologies step in. With science-backed precision, they don’t just beautify the outer layer of skin but also heal and rejuvenate from within, offering results that are faster, more noticeable, and long-lasting. To better understand the growing popularity of lasers in skincare, we spoke with Dr. Keerthana Kalva, MD-Dermatology, Chief Aesthetic Dermatologist at Inform Clinics, Hyderabad.

Limitations of Traditional Skincare

Dr. Keerthana explained: Moisturizers, serums, and home remedies can certainly keep the skin hydrated and soft, but most of these treatments work only on the top layer. “They do little to tackle deeper issues like stubborn pigmentation, acne scars, or signs of ageing. Creams may improve how skin looks and feels, but they cannot rebuild or remodel skin from within. That’s why concerns like sun damage, wrinkles, and scars often remain even with consistent use of skincare products.”

How Laser Treatments Work

Lasers rely on light and heat energy to activate the body’s natural healing response. Unlike lotions or serums, they can reach different skin depths, boosting cell renewal and collagen production where it’s really needed.

Some popular laser-based treatments include:

  • Laser resurfacing: Targets wrinkles, scars, and sun damage
  • Fractional lasers: Create controlled injuries to stimulate collagen repair
  • Microneedling with radiofrequency: Improves skin tightening and texture
  • LED light therapy: Helps with acne and skin rejuvenation
  • Laser hair removal: Destroys hair follicles without damaging surrounding skin

Why More People Aren’t Choosing Lasers Yet

Despite their effectiveness, laser treatments are still not as common as they should be. High costs, lack of awareness, and the convenience of over-the-counter skincare products play a major role in why people often stick to creams. Buying a face cream feels easy and familiar, while the idea of a laser procedure can seem intimidating.

But Dr. Keerthana points out the difference: “With creams, the effects vanish as soon as you stop using them. Laser treatments, on the other hand, keep working beneath the skin for weeks or even months after the procedure.”

Long-Term Advantages of Laser Skincare

The biggest win with laser treatments is their long-lasting benefits. By stimulating collagen production and skin cell turnover, they continue enhancing skin quality well after the session. Improvements in elasticity, tone, and overall texture can last months, and in some cases, even years. Compared to the temporary fixes of lotions, that’s a huge difference.

The Balance Between Skincare and Technology

To be clear, it’s not about one or the other. Daily skincare routines with gentle cleansing and moisturizing remain important for maintenance. But when it comes to issues like acne scars, pigmentation, wrinkles, or ageing, only advanced treatments like lasers can truly deliver transformative results.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that science-led laser treatments are shaping the future of beauty. They revive skin from within, offering what traditional creams simply cannot achieve.
