Suspense crime, Digital Desk : As a result of escalating border conflicts, the BCCI, or the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has stated that the TATA IPL 2025 season is on hold. Still, the BCCI appears intent on completing the remaining matches in May, contrary to speculation that they would be moved to August or September.
A source from the BCCI said the following on Cricbuzz:
“We have suspended the league for one week. We are not looking beyond that at this stage. We are serious about it. Watch out for the next three days.”
Official BCCI Statement
“In the meeting held yesterday to discuss the ongoing TATA IPL 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has resolved to suspend the remainder of the tournament effective immediately for a week. Further information on the schedule and venues will be provided following detailed planning, which will incorporate consultations with other stakeholders.”
This suggests that the BCCI is still holding out hope for a quick resolution to the situation, as border tensions would have to relax significantly for their plans to play out.
Finish The Remaining Matches By The End of May
Cipi has only 16 matches left to finish. The BCCI aims to sideline all of them within 12 days, however, if foreign stakeholders get in the way, double headers will be scheduled instead. A ceasefire is highly anticipated.
Players May Or May Not Return
It is speculated that overseas players already leaving or planning to leave India might cause issues. Whether they’ll return for the resumed games relies on the franchises which for now seem to run second to the bigger picture.
July/August Predictions No Good
August remains a problem due to India’s tour of Bangladesh alongside The Hundred where nine English players will participate in the IPL. In September the Caribbean Premier League is set to take place which means eight West Indian players will be in the IPL which is due to start midway through August.
We don't expect CPL to loosen their restrictions after recent BCCI requests.
BCCI Takes National Security Issues Very Seriously
BCCI made the following remarks which reflect their defense:
“India is a cricket loving nation but nothing is more important than India, her pride, territorial integrity, and security. The BCCI will support every effort which protects India.”
Strategy Regarding Movement of Players is Kept Private
The BCCI’s extraction of IPL teams and officials from Dharamsala was discreet:
Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals players were transported by bus to Delhi where they were later taken by bus to Jalandhar.
From there, they boarded the Vande Bharat Express train to New Delhi.
This operation had to be kept secret for safety and security purposes.
