In a tragic incident in Munshi Nagar Colony of Bareilly’s Izzatnagar area, a 28-year-old man named Raj allegedly died by suicide following a dispute with his wife. Before taking the step, Raj reportedly told his mother, “I am going to sleep forever, don’t disturb me.” Believing he meant to rest, she did not intervene. Hours later, she discovered him hanging from the ceiling fan.
Family Alleges Assault and Harassment by In-Laws
According to the deceased's family, Raj had recently gone to Shahjahanpur to bring his wife, Simran, from her maternal home. The couple had plans to attend a function in Dehradun. However, Simran’s family allegedly refused to send her and physically assaulted Raj, forcing him to return.
The next day, Simran’s family reportedly filed a police complaint against Raj’s family, further distressing him. Raj was allegedly held in police custody, which his family claims left him emotionally shattered.
Wife’s Threats Shared on Social Media
In a further escalation, Simran allegedly posted on social media, saying, “You will go to jail by 10:30, best of luck, now you go to jail.” Soon after, she reportedly filed a formal complaint at the local police station. The family also claims that Simran’s brother, who serves in the police, was involved in getting Raj beaten.
One-Year Marriage Marred by Disputes
Raj and Simran had been married for just a year and shared a son. Raj's family said he repeatedly raised concerns over Simran’s behavior, alleging that she often spent hours talking to someone on the phone. Complaints made to her family yielded no change.
On the day before the incident, Raj and his father were summoned to the women’s police station in Bareilly. There, they were allegedly assaulted and threatened with jail in the presence of Simran’s brother, who is said to be posted at the same station.
Police Begin Investigation
Bareilly police confirmed the incident, stating, “A 28-year-old youth was reported to have died by hanging. The body has been sent to the mortuary, and initial findings suggest domestic conflict. Further investigation is underway.”
