Police have arrested a Bangladeshi citizen in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. He had been living in India for more than two years with the help of a fake identity. A Bangladeshi citizen was arrested for staying in India for more than the prescribed period. According to police officials, this arrest was made by the team at Park Street Police Station on Friday night.

The accused was working in a hotel.

Based on a tip-off, the officials raided a hotel on Marquis Street where the accused had been working for the last two years. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had used fake documents to hide his illegal stay in India. He had made a passport and Aadhaar card so that he could work in the hotel by hiding his identity. The accused came to India about two years ago and was living here illegally. Kolkata Police has arrested the accused and started investigating the case.

Recently, during a routine security check at Mumbai International Airport, a Bangladeshi citizen was arrested, who was living in India on the basis of fake documents for the last 26 years. The accused was identified as Swapna Kumar Haripad Mandal, who was stopped from boarding a flight to Riyadh. Discrepancies were noticed in Mandal’s passport details, after which he was stopped on suspicion. During interrogation, it was found that Mandal was using a fake Indian passport. 

He had traveled to China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) twice using fake passports. Mandal’s passport was issued in Jeddah, but his way of speaking aroused the suspicion of the authorities. Upon further interrogation, he revealed that he is a Bangladeshi citizen and has been living illegally in India for the last 26 years.
