The alleged assault on a serving Army Colonel and his son by Punjab Police personnel over a parking dispute has sparked significant outrage. Despite the severity of the incident, including a broken arm sustained by the Colonel, there has been no FIR lodged, and the police personnel remain unidentified. As of now, no arrests have been made.

Lieutenant General (retd) KJS Dhillon, former Chinar Corps Commander, expressed his concerns on X, highlighting the ongoing inaction. He called for swift action, stating that the lack of response from the authorities was only benefiting enemies of the nation, particularly Pakistan. Dhillon urged action from key figures such as DG Punjab Police, Punjab Chief Minister, and the Home Minister.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred last week in Patiala, Punjab, when Colonel Pushpinder Bath, currently posted at the Army Headquarters in Delhi, had an argument with Punjab Police personnel. The altercation began when the police, reportedly in civilian clothes, asked Colonel Bath to move his vehicle. The situation escalated when the Colonel objected to the tone of the officers. In response, the police allegedly kicked and punched Colonel Bath.

When Bath’s son intervened, he was also allegedly assaulted. Reports claim that the police personnel used baseball bats during the attack. The unprovoked nature of the assault has led to widespread condemnation from the Army and veterans, with many calling it an unjustifiable attack on a serving officer and his family.

Veterans Express Outrage

The lack of accountability has caused significant unrest among serving Army personnel and veterans. Lieutenant General Dhillon emphasized the gravity of the situation, urging the authorities to act and prevent such incidents from further escalating.

As the investigation remains pending, many are left questioning the handling of such cases, particularly in a border state like Punjab, where maintaining law and order is of paramount importance.
