Suspense crime, Digital Desk : Apple is getting ready to abandon its longstanding practice of its operating systems having version numbers. Starting this year, the company is anticipated to change the nomenclature of its OS updates to a year-based system. Reports suggest that the forthcoming iOS update, set for release in the fall, will be called iOS 26 instead of the expected iOS 19.

The modification places Apple's version numbers in alignment with the subsequent calendar year, allowing users to easily keep track of when software updates are made available. This is similar to how the automative industry typically names vehicles a year in advance.

New Name to Apply to All of Apple Products
The new naming convention will reportedly apply to all of the following Apple products:

iPadOS 26
macOS 26
watchOS 26
tvOS 26
visionOS 26

This integrated approach is meant to streamline marketing of Apple's software by removing the inconsistencies in the lower version numbers used for different software components. For instance, iOS is on version 18, watchOS on 12, and visionOS on 2.

Redesigned User Experience Anticipated
Alongside the relaunch of its platforms, Apple is anticipated to declutter user interface elements across multiple products to achieve a comprehensive design overhaul. The update is likely to unify the aesthetic of all Apple devices to a more sleek and sophisticated style inspired by the operating system for the Vision Pro headset, visionOS.

Its adaptive nature will allow the user interface to incorporate enhancing spatial and more fluid features, making devices such as the I-pads and apple watches more user friendly.
