AMD met the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics cards on the market with the RDNA 4 graphics architecture. The Radeon RX 9070 Series comes enhanced with 16 gigabytes of GDDR6 memory. The ED Radeon RX 9070 performs more than 20% better, on average, than the previous RX 7900 GRE, especially in 1440p gaming scenarios, says AMD. The RX 9070 XT does even better, with an average performance increase of over 40%.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series: Pricing and availability
The graphics cards of the AMD Radeon RX 9000 series are expected to be available from major board vendors like Acer, ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX, and Yeston starting March 6th, 2025. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT has an SEP of USD 599, while the AMD Radeon RX 9070 has an SEP of USD 549.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series: Key features
The new AMD Radeon RX 9070 Series graphics cards are said to possess increased compute unit count. These UMG units are now structured based on AMD's RDNA 4 and boast over 64 unified compute units. AMD claims that gaming performance can increase by an additional 40% over the older AMD RDNA 3 architecture.
Raytracing
According to AMD, RDNA 4’s 3rd generation Raytracing Accelerators provide over double the Raytracing Compute Units from the previous generation.
Enhanced AI Accelerators
AMD claims the 2nd generation AI accelerators have been enhanced remarkably to allow AMD RDNA 4 be able to accomplish advanced AI tasks in considerably less time than was achievable with RDNA 3 due to the addition of additional AI math pipelines to expand the AI Accelerator’s emerging FP8 data type, as well as the ability to optimize for inference using techniques like structured sparsity. The American chipmaker states that these improvements provide as much as 8x INT8 throughput per AI accelerator per compute unit vs the previous generation.
AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution Technology 4 (FSR 4)
AMD claims that FSR 4, the new machine learning upscaling technology, will provide boosted frames during strenuous tasks such as 4K gaming and maximum raytrace settings with high quality in over 30 games at launch.
AMD HYPR-RX
With AMD HYPR-RX turned on alongside its suite of features, gamers are provided with an immediate surge in their experience immediately. The bunded features comprise AMD Software including AMD Radeon Super Resolution, Fluid Motion Frames 2.1, Radeon Anti-Lag, and Radeon Boost. All of these can be adjusted to gamers’ hardware and personal preferences straight from the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition to further increase FPS, responsiveness and efficiency.
AMD Radiance Display Engine
The AMD Radiance Display Engine is the leading choice for the latest DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b because of their game breaking resolutions and refresh rates of 8k 144Hz, 12 bit HDR, and full REC2020 Color Space for increased color accuracy, as per AMD.
An upgrade to ML-powered AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (AMD FSR 4) is now available
Exclusively available on AMD Radeon RX 9000 Series graphics cards, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, now features a new upgrade to AMD Fidelity Super Resolution 4 (AMD FSR 4) which helps maximize performance in over 30 games at launch with numerous more to come. According to AMD, FSR 4 has advanced AMD FSR 3.1 upscaling to far more refined image quality. Their claim rests on new ML based algorithms improving temporal stability, better detail preservation, and less ghosting artifacts.
