Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat on Saturday launched a membership drive. AAP hopes to make 60 lakh members by December 2026. Party state president Isudan Gadhvi launched the campaign in Ahmedabad and appealed to the people to join AAP and take Gujarat forward. He said that AAP wants to expand its family in Gujarat. Earlier in the 2022 assembly elections, the party got 41 lakh votes, which is 25 percent of the votes from Saurashtra and tribal areas of Gujarat.

Isudan Gadhvi said that we have started a membership campaign with a simple process using QR codes. He said that people wishing to join the party have to scan a QR code on their mobile phones, which will take them to a link with a form and after filling out the form they will become members. After this, they will get an identity card. He said that we hope to get 60 lakh members by December 2026. Currently, we have more than five lakh members.

Criticism of BJP’s membership drive

Gadhvi criticized the BJP’s membership drive and said that the ruling party was misleading people to enroll using one-time passwords (OTP). He claimed that there are reports that patients in hospitals and college students are being enrolled in the BJP without their consent. He said that AAP will bring much-needed change in the state by establishing itself as a strong alternative. Earlier in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections, AAP won five seats and got about 13 percent votes. The party contested almost all of the 182 seats in the state. Later one MLA left the party.
