Suspense crime, Digital Desk : A group of Texas state lawmakers is urging Elon Musk to pump the brakes on his ambitious plans for a robotaxi service in Austin, citing "alarming" safety concerns and calling the current proposal a "recipe for disaster."

In a formal letter sent to the Tesla CEO, the legislators expressed deep apprehension about launching a fleet of fully autonomous vehicles onto public roads without sufficient federal safety regulations in place. They pointed to the troubling safety record of Tesla’s current driver-assistance systems, Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Autopilot, which have been linked to numerous accidents and are currently under investigation by federal regulators.

The call for a delay comes as Tesla gears up for a major event on August 8, where Musk is expected to unveil the company's long-awaited, purpose-built robotaxi. Musk has promised a revolutionary vehicle that will operate without a human driver, fundamentally changing transportation.

However, the lawmakers argue that rushing this technology to market is a dangerous gamble with public safety. Their primary demand is for Tesla to implement a "temporary pause" on any robotaxi deployment in Texas. They want this pause to remain in effect until the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) establishes a comprehensive regulatory framework and a set of minimum safety standards for autonomous vehicles.

The letter highlights the growing tension between the rapid pace of AI-driven innovation and the slower, more cautious process of ensuring public safety through government oversight.
