A man who was called to the police station for questioning in Balrampur, Chhattisgarh, committed suicide. As soon as the information about the suicide of the youth was received, there was a stir in the police administration. The youth entered the washroom of the Kotwali police station of Balrampur district and hanged himself. After this, local people reached there and vandalized the police station by pelting stones. To control the uncontrolled crowd, the police did a lathi charge. Tear gas shells were also fired to remove the crowd from the spot.
What is the matter?
Police officials said that the deceased Guruchand Mandal’s wife went missing last month, following which he lodged a missing person complaint at the Balrampur police station on September 29. Health department employee Gurucharan Mandal (30 years) was called to the police station for questioning on Thursday afternoon. At around 3:00 pm, he hanged himself with his towel inside the police station’s toilet. His body has been sent for post-mortem. Mandal worked as a contract peon in the NRHM office.
Congress said attack
Meanwhile, Principal District and Sessions Judge Ashok Kumar Sahu ordered a judicial probe into the incident. Meanwhile, the opposition Congress criticized the ruling BJP over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. State Congress chief Deepak Baij said, “Chhattisgarh is burning under BJP rule. Law and order have collapsed. Such incidents are due to the failure of the BJP government. The situation in Balrampur is tense as locals pelted stones at the police station. The state government and administration are responsible for this. We condemn the incident and demand a high-level probe into it.” The Congress has formed an eight-member committee to investigate the incident.
