Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is on a two-day official visit to Pakistan. On Thursday, he met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad, where they discussed several key issues. Among these, Erdoğan emphasized the Kashmir issue, advocating for a peaceful resolution through dialogue between India and Pakistan, ensuring that the aspirations of the Kashmiri people are considered.
Kashmir Issue and Turkey's Stance
After holding both one-on-one discussions and delegation-level talks with PM Shahbaz Sharif, President Erdoğan reiterated Turkey’s support for Kashmir. In a media statement, he said:
"Like in the past, our state and our nation stand in solidarity with our Kashmiri brothers even today."
Meanwhile, India maintains its firm stance that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India. Tensions between India and Pakistan have remained high, particularly after the revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, which ended Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, restructuring it into two Union Territories.
Strengthening Pakistan-Turkey Relations
During the visit, President Erdoğan and PM Shahbaz signed 24 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to enhance bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors, including:
- Trade
- Water resources
- Agriculture
- Energy
- Culture
- Family and social services
- Science and technology
- Banking
- Education
- Defense
- Health
Erdoğan expressed his commitment to strengthening ties, stating:
"In the seventh session of our Council, we have agreed to further strengthen our relations. During this visit, we have signed a total of 24 agreements and MoUs covering various fields."

President Erdoğan was given a warm reception upon arrival at Noor Khan Airbase, where he was welcomed by:
- Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif
