Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced that it will commercially launch 5G services in Mumbai in March 2025. Following this, the 5G rollout will expand to Delhi, Bangalore, Chandigarh, and Patna in April 2025.
In addition to its 5G expansion plans, Vodafone Idea has also made significant progress in strengthening its 4G network over the past year.
Vodafone Idea's 4G Expansion & Growth
Massive Increase in 4G Coverage:
In the last nine months, Vodafone Idea has added 4.1 crore new 4G users, increasing its total 4G population coverage to 107 crores as of December 2024.
In March 2024, its 4G coverage stood at 103 crores.
The company aims to reach 110 crores by March 2025 and further expand to 120 crores (~90% of the population).
4G Data Speed & Network Expansion:
Vodafone Idea's 4G data capacity grew by 24%, leading to a 28% improvement in 4G speeds.
Over 4,000 new broadband towers were added in the latest quarter, marking the biggest expansion since the Vi merger.
Subscriber Base & Revenue Growth:
Total Subscriber Base: 19.98 crore
4G Subscriber Base: 12.6 crore
Average Revenue Per User (ARPU): ₹173 (up from ₹166 in the previous quarter) – 4.7% growth
Vodafone Idea’s Network Expansion Strategy
Enhanced Coverage with Advanced Technology:
4G Deployment in Sub-GHz 900 Band: Around 15,000 new sites have been upgraded to improve indoor network experience.
New 4G Sites Added: 10,400 sites in the 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands, enhancing network capacity and data speeds on the Vi GIGAnet network.
Total Broadband Sites: As of December 31, 2024, Vodafone Idea had 4,60,300 broadband sites, including:
75,800 TDD sites
13,950 Massive MIMO sites
12,800 small cells
LTE 900 Expansion: Vodafone Idea has expanded its LTE 900 services in 16 out of 17 key circles, ensuring better connectivity and improved network performance.
