Agra: In multiple Northern states of India, people have to bear the extreme cold and on that day, on Wednesday, Agra along with the popular Taj Mahal dolled itself up in a thick blanket of fog. As the historical monument built in the 17th century was appealing for tourists, who were interested in posting their pictures, video footage indicates otherwise as it was virtually invisible to the naked eye.
Anyways, this isn’t the first time the world was able to witness the Taj Mahal roam around in smog. A few years back in 2021, the Mughals iconic mausoleum faced a similar situation during those winters.
Bad news for the people of Uttar Pradesh but even better for Taj Mahal tourists, as chilly winds blew in from the mountains bringing along a dense fog with them, causing visibility close to zero in certain areas. Along with the kicking up of a smog, the temperature of the city faced a plummet as well which led people to experience a severe cold wave.
Due to a midst dense fog, people who reach Mehtab Bagh this early during the winters were unable to witness the magnificent Taj Mahal due to not being able to check its visibility. It’s a fact that attributed to the increased number of world wide tourists who want to come visit the iconic Taj Mahal during the winter.
On Wednesday, the temperature hit an all time low of 8 degrees Celsius due to a cold sash that resulted in wind, fog and reduced visibility around Delhi. As recorded by the Indian Meteorological Department, the day's maximum was capped to 16 degrees, all two factors combined made for an extremely cold day.
In Delhi's Sarai Kale Khan South, Nigam Bodh Ghat South and Ram Leela Maidan South slews of people sought refuge inside night homes to escape the icy weather dressed in layers of blankets and quilts. The homeless settled inside purpose built night shelters dedicated solely for the homeless further showcasing the chilling degree, while a high density fog plagued the weather.
For the purpose of housing the homeless, The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board has set up 235 pagoda styled tents around Nizamuddin Flyover, Lodhi Road and AIIMS among other locations.
