ICC Champions Trophy 2025: India's position in the semi finals of the Champions Trophy has been earned. Rohit Sharma's team remains undefeated to this day. The team has earned enormous wins over neighbors Bangladesh and arch rivals Pakistan in Dubai last week. Now, Indias last group match against New Zealand on Sunday to the knockout stages for both teams have rendered it to be little more than a formality. India’s group matches are being played in the Dubai International Stadium under the hybrid model after refusing to travel to Pakistan due to security reasons.
India is benefitting: Cummins
The Australian captain is not pleased regarding Indias presence in Dubai. Playing in the champions trophy all in a row is a disadvantage to the other teams according to Cummins. Due to the birth of his second child, Edie, and attempts to recover from his ankle injury, he chose to withdraw from participating in the Championship Trophy. So, Steve Smith is now in charge of the Kangaroo team.
What was said by Cummins?
In his comments to Yahoo Sport Australia, Cummins said, “I believe it is good that the tournament carries on, but obviously it gives them (India) a great benefit to compete at the same venue. They are looking very strong already and they have a great benefit of playing all their matches there." Cummins is set to take the field next month again, this time at the helm of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is also going to take part in the IPL which starts on March 22. Cummins’ previous season ended with SRH reaching the finals where his team faced Kolkata Knight Riders and lost the trophy match.
Fitness Progress Report
Pat Cummins on his decision regarding the Champions Trophy: “I have enjoyed being at home, everything seems alright and my ankle rehab is quite good. This week I will begin my running and bowling. There is the IPL, our Test World Championship, West Indies tour and then after that, so much to look forward to.”
Pat’s thoughts on the English
Steve Smith has guided the side during Cummins' absence, and Australia’s first encounter with England under lights in Lahore was a win in the bag. The side timed a chase of 352 with Josh Inglis scoring a century without losing his wicket. Pat Cummins remarks the effort of the Australian English batsman, “Now he has completed the trio of formats. Captured in big tournaments like the champion’s trophy, he is a ‘ready’ player. It’s a tough decision of 15 to 11 for the next Test match.”
