Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Indian opener Shubman Gill has received a significant boost. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced its latest ODI rankings, bringing exciting news for Indian cricket fans. Shubman Gill has made impressive gains, securing the No. 2 spot in the ICC ODI batsman rankings with 781 rating points.

Dominant Performance Against England

Shubman Gill showcased outstanding form in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against England. His remarkable batting performances included:

  • 259 runs in 3 ODIs at an average of 86.33
  • One century and two half-centuries
  • A total of 37 fours and 4 sixes
  • 'Man of the Series' award for his excellent performance

His consistent performances have significantly narrowed the gap with Pakistan’s Babar Azam, who currently holds the No. 1 spot in the rankings.

ICC Releases Latest ODI Rankings

The latest ICC ODI rankings have been updated, with the top three batsmen ranked as follows:

  1. Babar Azam (Pakistan) - 786 rating points
  2. Shubman Gill (India) - 781 rating points
  3. Rohit Sharma (India) - 773 rating points

Gill is now just five rating points behind Babar Azam, while Rohit Sharma is in close pursuit with 773 rating points, following his 119-run innings in Cuttack on 9 February.

Intense Battle for Supremacy in ODI Rankings

With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 set to begin on 19 February, the race for the top spot in the ODI rankings is heating up. India will start its campaign against Bangladesh on 20 February, followed by a highly anticipated clash against Pakistan in Dubai on 23 February. The team will also face New Zealand on 2 March.

If India progresses in the tournament, it will play its remaining matches, including the semi-finals and final, in Dubai. With crucial fixtures ahead, both Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma have a strong chance to claim the No. 1 ranking.
