YouTuber and social media influencer Elvish Yadav has once again found himself at the center of controversy. A while ago, during a podcast, he made a casteist remark about Bigg Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang. His statement quickly went viral, sparking outrage and heavy criticism on social media. Chum Darang herself expressed her displeasure over the remark. However, what started as online backlash has now escalated into a serious legal issue.

Women's Commission Takes Action

The Arunachal Pradesh Women's Commission has stepped in, taking the matter to the National Women's Commission (NCW) and demanding strict action against Elvish Yadav. Kenjum Pakam, Chairperson of the Arunachal Pradesh Women's Commission, has written to Vijaya Kishor Rahatkar, Chairperson of the NCW, calling for serious consequences.

She stated that Elvish’s comment is not just an insult to Chum Darang, but to the entire community of women from Northeast India. She emphasized the importance of setting a precedent to prevent such offensive remarks in the future.

Concerns Over Impact on Northeast Women in Bollywood

In the letter, Pakam pointed out that derogatory comments like these don’t just harm an individual’s reputation but also create a sense of fear and insecurity among women from the Northeast who aspire to build a career in Bollywood. She stressed that such behavior must not go unpunished, urging authorities to take action against those who demean women on public platforms.

Elvish Yadav’s Controversial Podcast Statement

The controversy began when Elvish Yadav, in a podcast with Rajat Dalal, made fun of Chum Darang’s name in a highly offensive manner. Referring to actor Karan Veer Mehra, Elvish remarked:

"Karan Veer definitely had Covid, because who even likes Chum brother? How can it taste so bad? And the name 'Chum' itself is obscene."

This comment instantly sparked outrage on social media, with many labeling it as racist and anti-women.

Chum Darang’s Strong Response

Chum Darang didn’t stay silent on the issue. She took to Instagram Stories, calling out Elvish’s remarks as insulting rather than humorous.

She wrote, "Mocking someone's name, identity, and achievements is not comedy, it’s disrespect. Everyone deserves respect and equality. There must be a clear line between humor and hate."

She further urged people to stand united against racism and ensure such incidents don’t go unnoticed.

Celebrities and Social Media React

Many celebrities and social media users have voiced their opinions on the controversy, condemning Elvish’s statement. People from Northeast India have particularly expressed anger, calling his remarks racist and offensive.

With the Arunachal Pradesh Women's Commission officially stepping in, all eyes are now on the National Commission for Women to see if they take any concrete action. Meanwhile, Elvish Yadav has not yet responded to the backlash or the legal developments surrounding the case.
