Ahmedabad: Earthquake tremors were felt once again in Kutch district of Gujarat. An earthquake of 3.2 magnitude hit on Wednesday morning. The Institute of Earthquake Research (ISR) gave this information. The district administration said that there is no news of any casualties or damage to property due to the earthquake.
The earthquake occurred at 10:24
According to Gandhinagar-based ISR, the earthquake was recorded at 10.24 am, with its epicentre located 23 km north-north-east of Bhachau. Last month, four seismic activities of more than three magnitudes were recorded in the region, including a 3.2 magnitude earthquake three days ago, which also had its epicentre near Bhachau.
Gujarat is very sensitive to earthquakes
According to ISR, an earthquake of 3.7 magnitude hit the district on December 23 and an earthquake of 3.2 magnitude hit on December 7. An earthquake of 4 magnitude hit Kutch on November 18 last year. According to ISR data, before this, an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude hit Patan in North Gujarat on November 15. Gujarat falls in a high-risk sensitive area in terms of earthquakes.
There was a devastating earthquake in 2001
According to the data of Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), nine major earthquakes have occurred in Gujarat in the last 200 years. According to GSDMA, the earthquake that struck Kutch on January 26, 2001 was the third largest and second most destructive earthquake in India in the last two centuries. Many towns and villages in the district were almost completely destroyed in the earthquake, in which about 13,800 people were killed and 1.67 lakh others were injured.
