There was an earthquake on January 1 as well
The Institute of Seismological Research (ISR) had reported that an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 hit Gujarat's Kutch district on Wednesday morning, January 1. The district administration said that there were no reports of casualties or property damage due to the earthquake. News agency PTI, quoting the Gandhinagar-based ISR, had reported that the earthquake struck at 10.24 am on Wednesday, with its epicenter located 23 km north-northeast (NNE) of Bhachau. Last month, four seismic activities of more than 3 magnitude were recorded in the region, including a 3.2 magnitude earthquake three days ago, whose epicenter was also close to Bhachau.
There was an earthquake last month as well
ISR said a 3.7 magnitude earthquake hit the district on December 23 and a 3.2 magnitude earthquake on December 7. A 4 magnitude earthquake hit Kutch on November 18 last year. Earlier, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit Patan in North Gujarat on November 15, according to ISR data.
Earthquakes keep coming in Gujarat
Gujarat is a high earthquake-risk zone. According to data from the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), nine major earthquakes have occurred here in the last 200 years, reports PTI. According to the GSDMA, the earthquake that struck Kutch on January 26, 2001 was the third largest and second most destructive earthquake in India in the last two centuries. A large number of towns and villages in the district were almost completely destroyed in the quake, killing around 13,800 people and injuring 1.67 lakh others.
