As Delhi prepares for its 2025 legislative assembly elections, the political environment is charged with fierce competition between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The ruling AAP, led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is looking to retain its grip on the national capital, while the BJP has intensified its efforts to oust AAP from power.
AAP has been riding high on its successes in governance, especially in areas like healthcare, education, and electricity reforms. Arvind Kejriwal's focus on improving basic infrastructure and his promises to expand government services have earned him a loyal base among Delhi’s working-class residents. His party is banking on these successes to secure a third consecutive term in office. On the other hand, the BJP, which has historically been strong in Delhi’s municipal and central politics, is looking to expand its influence in the capital. With the backing of central government support, the BJP is promising more robust infrastructural development, including improved public transportation, smart cities initiatives, and economic growth strategies. However, its success in the assembly polls remains to be seen, as it faces strong opposition from AAP, which has painted the BJP as out of touch with Delhi's real issues.
Both parties have been aggressively courting voters in key constituencies, with significant focus on issues such as inflation, employment, and public services. In the backdrop, national political issues, including the debate over the central government’s control over Delhi's administrative matters, have also played a role in shaping the election narrative.
