The defense against defamation suit filed by BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar who accused Congress MP Shashi Tharoor of defamation proved unsuccessful at a Delhi court. The complaint against Shashi Tharoor failed to meet the criteria for defamation thus Additional chief judicial magistrate Paras Dalal declined to issue an order for his appearance before the court.

Chandrasekhar filed a defamation lawsuit against Tharoor because the Congress Member of Parliament used national television to make false and insulting statements about voter bribery in Thiruvananthapuram constituency during the 2024 election cycle.

The fan allegation directed against Tharoor emerged for the purpose of damaging his public standing and determining the outcome of the previous parliamentary election despite being aware of its untrue nature.

Different news channels and social media outlets published the interviews conducted by the proposed accused at his request thus causing the complainant to lose societal reputation before eventually losing the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections according to his complaint.

The court recognized the complaint on September 21st 2024.

The Delhi High Court called Tharoor to appear in a defamation case where Chandrasekhar requested compensation of Rs 10 crore to recover his damaged reputation.

The matter received posting from Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav on April 28. The suit should accept the filed complaint as a court case. The court instructed summons to be delivered to Tharoor as the defendant. The judicial order instructed that the joint registrar must place the matter on April 28.
