The political atmosphere in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a somber moment on Wednesday when incarcerated Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam refused to meet their family members who had arrived at the Rampur District Jail for a scheduled visit causing visible distress to the relatives The family group which included Azam Khan wife and former MLA Tanzeem Fatima his sister Nikhat Akhlaq and elder son Adeeb Khan had reached the jail premises in the morning with hopes of meeting the jailed leaders but were forced to return without seeing them after waiting for nearly an hour Jail officials confirmed that while the administrative formalities for the meeting were completed the final decision rested with the inmates and both Azam Khan and Abdullah explicitly declined the request to meet their visitors .

This incident marks another instance of the leaders distancing themselves from visitors since their imprisonment following convictions in various legal matters including the fake birth certificate case Tanzeem Fatima expressed her anguish to the media stationed outside the facility stating that Abdullah first refused to meet causing Azam Khan to also decline the interaction leaving the family with no choice but to leave the premises in disappointment The refusal has sparked discussions in political circles regarding the mental state and dissatisfaction of the senior leader who is currently serving a seven year sentence along with his son in the Rampur jail facility
