If you are planning to travel or step out in Bihar tomorrow, be prepared to face the returning fog. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has just issued a Yellow Alert, cautioning residents in at least 12 districts about potentially difficult weather conditions expected on the first day of February.
The biggest factor influencing the forecast is the expected dense fog conditions across Bihar. This isn’t the kind of light haze we sometimes see; IMD predicts fog so thick it will likely significantly disrupt morning traffic and visibility.
The districts currently under this IMD Yellow Alert for Bihar are concentrated in areas known to experience low visibility.
Why is this important?
Whenever a Yellow Alert is issued for fog, it’s a direct warning to residents and, especially, commuters. This kind of heavy fog leads to immediate and severe impact on essential services, particularly transport:
- Travel Disruption: Expect train and flight delays, and be prepared for incredibly slow-moving road traffic. Drivers will need to exercise extreme caution.
- Health Risks: The foggy conditions often exacerbate cold temperatures and poor air quality.
Temperatures across the state are expected to continue their downward trend. Many districts have been seeing nighttime lows around 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, and this cold weather trend is projected to continue alongside the foggy mornings. Even the daytime maximum temperatures might struggle to climb past the upper teens.
For those planning any long-distance travel, it would be wise to check the latest weather and train schedules before leaving, as the thick blanket of fog is predicted to make mornings quite challenging throughout the alerted region.
