The auspicious occasion of Bhaum Pradosh Vrat will be observed by devotees on December 2 2025 which falls on a Tuesday in the month of Margashirsha. This specific fasting day holds immense spiritual significance as it combines the worship of Lord Shiva with the astrological influence of Mars or Mangal. Astrologers and religious scholars note that when the thirteenth day of the lunar fortnight known as Trayodashi falls on a Tuesday it is referred to as Bhaum Pradosh and is considered particularly powerful for those seeking relief from debts and health issues. The confluence of energies on this day offers a unique opportunity for believers to pray for prosperity and the removal of obstacles in their personal and professional lives.
Central to the observance is the recitation of the traditional Pradosh Vrat Katha which recounts the ancient tale of a poor widow and a prince named Dharmagupta. According to the legend the widow supported her son and the prince who had lost his father and kingdom by begging for alms. Their fortunes changed after they met Sage Shandilya who advised them to observe the Pradosh Vrat to seek the grace of Lord Shiva. Following the sages advice with devotion led to the prince regaining his kingdom and marrying a celestial princess named Anshumati. This story is read during the evening puja to inspire faith and demonstrate the benevolent power of keeping the fast.
Devotees begin their day with a holy bath and a resolve to fast from sunrise until after the sunset prayers. The most critical part of the ritual occurs during the Pradosh Kaal which is the twilight period just after sunset when Lord Shiva is believed to perform his cosmic dance. Offerings of bilva leaves milk flowers and holy water are made to the Shivling followed by the chanting of mantras and the performance of the Shiva Aarti. By completing these rituals with a pure heart individuals hope to wash away past sins and gain the divine blessings of peace success and longevity. The combination of Tuesday worship for Hanuman and Pradosh worship for Shiva makes this date a highly auspicious event in the Hindu calendar.
