In a significant development, Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his wife, Dhanashree Verma, have officially been granted a divorce with mutual consent. The couple’s divorce was finalized by the Bandra family court on March 20, 2025, following lengthy legal proceedings.

Court Confirms Divorce

The confirmation of the divorce came from Dhanashree’s lawyer, who appeared alongside the couple at the family court for the final settlement discussions. In a statement to the media, Dhanashree’s lawyer confirmed that the divorce had been granted by mutual consent, as stated in a video shared by a paparazzi on Instagram.

“This is a court matter. The divorce has been granted by mutual consent,” said the lawyer.

Settlement and Legal Proceedings

The divorce decision followed the intervention of the Bombay High Court, which had directed the family court to finalize the divorce proceedings on March 20, 2025. One of the key aspects addressed during the proceedings was the alimony amount Yuzvendra Chahal was to pay. Initially, Chahal had agreed to pay Rs 4.75 crore as part of the settlement, but by the time of the February hearing, he had only paid Rs 2.37 crore, which led to further legal proceedings.

Both parties arrived separately at the court on the scheduled date, wearing masks to maintain privacy and avoid being photographed. In a video shared by ANI, Yuzvendra's lawyer confirmed the couple’s divorce, stating, "Dono parties ka divorce hogaya hai. Dono parties ne jo joint petition file ki thi mutual consent ke liye woh court ne accept karliya hai. The parties are no longer husband and wife."

Background and Reason for Divorce

Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma, who had been living separately for over two and a half years, cited compatibility issues as the primary reason for their divorce. The couple, who tied the knot in December 2020, had been separated since June 2022.

They had requested the court to waive the mandatory six-month cooling-off period under Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, which is typically required before granting a divorce. The couple’s petition to waive this period was filed on February 5, 2025, and was approved by the court.
