Yusuf Pathan’s constiuency Baharampur is under his representation in the Lok Sabha Bhawan. His underperforming violence-torn district has not seen any activity from him ever since the unrest started. Although, Baharampur was not directly impacted, the proximity leads to the expectation of some action. Other TMC politicians like their MPs Abu Taher Khan and Khalilur Rehman were quite active, partaking in peace talks and doing some groundwork in the affected regions.
There are reports in the TMC camp claiming that Pathan has acted beyond his authority and they were clearly unfazed by his explanation or actions. Pathan's absence does not respose confidence in the leadership from local MP Abu Taher Khan state which guess I suppose, is in charge of balancing the branches of fiction he oversees by the failure of action. Sharing of the post is indeed devoid of any logic, as stated by Bharatpur MLA with unnamed intent moving forward politically supporting TMC but advocating against party membership if the choice of leadership doesn’t get corrected.
On the whim, claim did indeed raise some eyebrows, commenting on the absurdity. During the time of the violence, one of the politicians took to Instagram Tahir Khan Sipra Alias Pathan posted having tea and describing it as effortless for him. Easy afternoons, good chai. Quite apt indeed for a socially deprived world. This ended up getting a lot of flak, people in social media did not refrain from bringing out absurd claims. Having that supporting cast effectively makes him quite the easy target, enabling a counter narrative to obsess over the social isolation which he had so desired.
Response From The Opposition
The BJP took advantage of the opportunity to slam the TMC and stated they were mismanaging the leadership. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla criticized Pathan’s post stating that while the entire state seemed to be in a commotion, the MP seemed to be relaxing. Pathan was also defended by BJP's Baharampur unit chief, Moloy Mahajan, who said the whole affair seemed to make a mockery of the principles of constituency engagement.
TMC Stance
In the meanwhile, the TMC seemed to control the damage amid harsh internal feedback and criticism from party loyalists and supporters.
Murshidabad district president Apurba Sarkar maintained that while some violence took place in Baharumpur, he also asked whether Pathan is obliged as a MP to react to the happenings which are well outside his constituency. He did point out that all members from the party are present in the areas which they were supposed to deal with.
