Year Ender 2024: Like every year, the year 2024 also brought a lot of happiness and sorrow for cricket fans. Team India managed to win the T20 World Cup 2024 title in June. In this way, Team India’s 11-year ICC trophy title drought came to an end. It had not even been 4 months since Team India became the T20 champion that the team suffered such a bad defeat in the Test that a flurry of shameful records started. With the victory of the T20 World Cup 2024 title, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja said goodbye to the 20 over format. With this tournament, the tenure of Team India coach Rahul Dravid also ended. After this, Team India got a new coach and with this a new beginning of Indian cricket started.
After becoming the champion, about two and a half months later, Team India got the opportunity to play its first Test series at home. In this series, Team India faced Bangladesh. The Indian team did not face much difficulty in winning this series and Bangladesh was clean swept 2-0. After winning this series, Team India’s confidence was at its peak and everyone expected that in the next series, the team will deal with the guest New Zealand in the same way as it did with Bangladesh. But all the planning of Team India went in vain when New Zealand surprised the entire cricket world by winning the first Test. No one could easily believe that Team India lost the first Test at home.
Team India got back to back defeat
In this first test match played in Bengaluru, New Zealand defeated India by 8 wickets. In this way, the Kiwi team managed to win its first test match on Indian soil after 1988 i.e. after 36 years. This was only the third victory of the Kiwi team in 37 test matches on Indian soil. After trailing 0-1 in the 3 match series, Team India was burning with the fire of revenge, but as soon as the second test match started in Pune, New Zealand once again tightened the grip and pushed Team India on the backfoot. In the end, New Zealand won and achieved the great feat of winning the test series on Indian soil for the first time in the history of test cricket.
India suffered its biggest defeat at home
In the third and final match of the Test series, the Indian team was looking strong at one time but the Kiwi team conquered the fort of Mumbai and created a new history in Test cricket by clean sweeping Team India 3-0 in the series. With this defeat, Team India registered the shameful record of the biggest defeat. This was the first time that India had to face a clean sweep in a series of three or more Test matches on home ground.
