The interim administration in Bangladesh has responded to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s stated desire to return from India, assuring that she will be provided with complete state security upon arrival. However, the government maintained that her political and legal future will be strictly determined through the country's judicial process rather than executive intervention.
Judicial Accountability and Constitutional Rights
Addressing the media regarding Hasina's planned return slated for December, Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Advisor Zahid Ur Rahman emphasized that all individuals, regardless of the severity of accusations tied to the 2024 political uprising, are entitled to full legal and constitutional protections. Officials noted that figures like former cricketer and Awami League leader Shakib Al Hasan, alongside Hasina herself, will face standard judicial proceedings while retaining their procedural rights.
Rejection of Authoritarian Governance and Democratic Commitment
The administration firmly stated its objective to prevent any resurgence of autocratic rule or political dominance. Stressing the nation's transition toward democratic transparency, advisor Zahid Ur Rahman declared that future governance will reject mafia-style politics. Although the Foreign Ministry initially utilized strong rhetorical descriptions following Hasina's virtual press conference from New Delhi on August 5, subsequent official press briefings have adopted a more measured stance focusing on institutional processes.
Clarification on High-Level Bilateral Engagements
Addressing regional diplomacy, the advisor commented on the recent visit of a delegation led by RAW chief Parag Jain to Dhaka, describing it as a routine diplomatic and security dialogue between neighboring nations. Dismissing speculative reports surrounding the visit, the government reiterated that bilateral interactions remain structured under mutually recognized state parameters, ensuring sovereign oversight in all cooperative security measures moving forward.
