Addressing the Lok Sabha on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict in West Asia, describing it as a source of "unprecedented challenges" for India. Highlighting the government's top priority, the PM shared a significant update on the safety of Indian nationals stranded in the crossfire.
Massive Return of Indian Citizens PM Modi informed the Parliament that since the beginning of the hostilities, more than 3,75,000 Indians have returned safely to their homeland. This includes nearly 1,000 individuals from Iran alone, of whom over 700 are medical students whose education was interrupted by the crisis.
Global Economy Under Threat The Prime Minister emphasized that the ripples of this war are being felt far beyond the borders of the conflict zone. "The situation is impacting the global economy, energy security, and the daily lives of people," PM Modi stated. He noted that India’s strategic interests are deeply tied to the region, where approximately one crore (10 million) Indians live and work, contributing significantly to the maritime and energy sectors.
Diplomatic Outreach & Ground Support To ensure the safety of the diaspora, PM Modi revealed that he has personally engaged in two rounds of telephonic conversations with the heads of state of most West Asian nations. "All leaders have assured the full safety of our citizens," he added.
The government has established 24/7 emergency helplines and outreach rooms to provide real-time assistance. Furthermore, in a major relief for students, the CBSE has taken steps to ensure that the education of children in Indian schools within the Gulf region remains undisrupted, even cancelling certain exams in affected areas.
A Commitment to Safety While acknowledging the tragic loss of some lives and injuries during this period, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that his government is providing every possible support to the grieving families and ensuring the best medical treatment for the injured. "In any crisis, the security of Indians—at home or abroad—remains our ultimate priority," he concluded.
