Yogi govt’s initiative to take literacy to every section of society, 5.10 lakh learners take literacy examination across 75 districts
Lucknow, September 20 : As part of efforts to expand access to education to every section of society in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the foundational literacy examination was conducted on Sunday under the Ullas-Nav Bharat Literacy Program. The examination was conducted simultaneously across all 75 districts of the state, with around 5.10 lakh learners participating. Along with council schools, examination centers were also set up in prisons and juvenile homes, enabling the literacy campaign to reach diverse sections of society.
The objective of the Ullas-Nav Bharat Literacy Program is to provide foundational literacy and numeracy skills to illiterate persons aged 15 years and above. With Sunday’s examination, an important stage in the literacy process was completed across all 75 districts of the state.
Through this campaign, which reached schools, prisons and juvenile homes, efforts have advanced to link basic reading and writing abilities with essential life skills.
The examination conducted under the Ullas-Nav Bharat Literacy Program assessed the learners’ basic reading, writing and numeracy skills. The examination was conducted at designated centers across all districts of the state with the necessary arrangements in place.
The participation of around 5.10 lakh learners underlined the extensive reach of the adult literacy campaign being implemented across the state.
A special feature of this examination was that the opportunity for literacy was not limited to council schools but also reached prisons and juvenile homes. Examinations were also conducted at these locations to connect learners from different social circumstances with foundational literacy and numeracy skills.
A Government of India team was present in Chandauli and Jaunpur districts to inspect and monitor the examination. The team inspected the designated examination centers and reviewed the conduct of the examination and arrangements.
At the state level, officials from the Directorate of Literacy and Alternative Education/State Literacy Mission Authority, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, also visited various districts and inspected the examination centers. Shri Anil Bhushan Chaturvedi, Director of Education, Basic/Literacy, inspected examination centers in Lucknow district; Smt. Neelam, Deputy Director, Literacy, inspected centers in Pratapgarh district; and Smt. Pratima Mishra, Assistant Director, Literacy, inspected examination centers in Sonbhadra district.
