Weather patterns across Uttar Pradesh have undergone a sharp seasonal shift as an active low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal combines with a passing western disturbance, triggering widespread rainfall activity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an orange alert warning of intense downpours across 13 central and eastern districts, while placing over 29 surrounding districts under a yellow alert. The dual synoptic systems are unleashing heavy showers accompanied by squally winds clocking 30 to 40 km/h, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes, and thunderstorm activity that has driven day temperatures down by 4 to 8 degrees Celsius across the state.
Severe Downpours Ahead: 13 Districts Under Orange Alert and Disaster Teams on Standby
Meteorologists have warned of localized waterlogging, flash inundations in low-lying pockets, and potential disruptions to vehicular traffic across vulnerable agricultural and urban belts:
High-Risk Zones: The IMD’s orange alert specifically covers Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Gonda, Balrampur, Shravasti, Barabanki, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, and adjoining areas around Ayodhya.
Administrative Readiness: Respective District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and emergency response cells have been instructed to monitor vulnerable river catchments, clear arterial drainage routes, and keep relief apparatus primed for immediate deployment.
Advisory to Residents: Authorities have advised rural and urban dwellers to stay indoors during thunderstorm peaks, avoid sheltering under isolated trees, and steer clear of dilapidated electric poles or open transformers amid lightning risks.

Districts on Alert: Moderate to heavy showers are forecast across Prayagraj, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Unnao, Lucknow, Ambedkar Nagar, Hamirpur, and Mahoba.
Steep Temperature Drop: Persistent cloud cover and convective rains have dragged maximum temperatures down to a cool range of 26°C to 32°C statewide. In state capital Lucknow, overcast skies and intermittent spells of light to moderate rain will keep daytime highs hovering between 26°C and 31°C, while night temperatures will dip to 22°C to 23°C.
Regional Thermometer: Key commercial centers including Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Gorakhpur are set to record daytime temperatures between 28°C and 32°C, while scattered convective showers and gusty winds remain likely across isolated pockets of western Uttar Pradesh.
