Kanwar Yatra Traffic Alert: 3-Day Heavy Vehicle Ban and Route Diversion Implemented on Rampur Highway
The holy month of Sawan underway and the first auspicious Monday approaching on August 3, 2026, the local police administration has ramped up security measures to ensure the absolute safety of thousands of Kanwariyas. To safeguard pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey, authorities have enforced a strict three-day route diversion for all heavy vehicles starting from 8 PM on Friday. Senior police officials, including CO Pankaj Pant and Tanda police station in-charge Balwan Singh, have stepped up ground monitoring by conducting foot marches along key stretches like the Bajpur road in Dadhiyal, ensuring foolproof security arrangements across the district.
Sawan Festivities and Major Dates for Jalabhishek
The sacred month of Sawan brings immense religious fervor, with Mondays falling on August 3, August 10, August 17, and August 24, while Sawan Shivaratri is slated for August 11. During this period, thousands of devotees from Rampur and surrounding regions travel to holy sites such as Haridwar, Brajghat, and Neelkanth to collect sacred water for ritual Jalabhishek. To accommodate the massive influx of foot pilgrims and maintain smooth traffic flow, the administration has dedicated one lane of the highway exclusively for small vehicles and Kanwariyas, while completely barring heavy commercial traffic for three days.
Comprehensive Traffic Diversion Plan for Heavy Vehicles
To prevent gridlocks and ensure hassle-free transit, the police department has issued detailed alternative routes for heavy vehicles traveling across Uttar Pradesh:
Bareilly and Mirganj to Delhi: Heavy vehicles heading from Bareilly and Mirganj toward Delhi are being redirected via Amla/Teen Batti Tiraha, Patwai, Shahbad, Saifni, Bilari, Hazratnagargarhi, Sirsi, and Chaudhary Sarai Chowki Sambhal through the Khirni Cut on the Ganga Expressway.
Rudrapur and Bilaspur Route: Commercial trucks arriving from Rudrapur (Uttarakhand) and Bilaspur toward Delhi are blocked from entering the city via Koyla/Koyali Cut, diverted instead from Bypass Zero Point Shahjahannagar to the Ajitpur Bypass Bridge toward Shahbad and the Ganga Expressway.
Moradabad and Bilari Connectivity: Traffic moving from Moradabad toward Bilari and Rampur will route through Saifni, Shahbad, Patwai, and Ajitpur Bypass Bridge to reach Zero Point Shahjahannagar and Bilaspur. Reverse routes have also been clearly marked for vehicles traveling from Delhi toward Bareilly via Saifni and Shahbad.
